KENNEDY ON NO MATCH RULE

Today, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, released the following statement in response to the proposal by President Bush to allow the Social Security Administration to use tax returns to attempt to enforce the country's immigration laws.

"The Administration's proposal is deeply troubling because it does not provide adequate protection for American workers. In these difficult economic times, Americans are already deeply anxious about their job security. The last thing the Administration should be doing is adding to that anxiety by putting more workers at risk of unfairly losing their livelihoods. We need a better approach that allows for strong enforcement, but keeps American jobs secure."
